I Want My Hat Back
The bear’s hat is gone, and he wants it back. Patiently and politely, he asks the animals he comes across whether they have seen it. Each animal says no. Just as the bear begins to despair, a deer comes by and gives him a clue which reignites his search.

Reading Everywhere!
Make text come alive around your home by using a sticky note, index card, or extra piece of paper to label a hat.
Hang the label near a hat and discuss the letters and their meaning with your child. Labeling helps children learn that letters come together to make words and creates a print rich environment in your home.
Pre-Reading Building Block
Before reading I Want My Hat Back, flip through the pages of the book. Identify each animal. Encourage your child to point to the animal and say what the animal is.
Let's Play
Find a hat (or another object of your choice) and hide the hat from your child. Play “hot and cold” to find the missing hat. As your child searches for the hat, tell them “warm” or “hot” as they get closer to the missing hat. As they go further from the hat, tell them “cold” or “freezing!”
Continue playing until the child finds the hat. Switch roles - the child hides the hat, the adult searches for the hat, and the child gives temperature clues.
